First up, I should probably disclose this will be more like a demo than a Full Fledged game. After all, this will be my first attempt in using Unreal Engine 4. I have a basic understanding of game design, and have played around with Unity in the past on a basic, beginners level, however, after looking into what I ultimately want to achieve, UE4 seems to be the way to go and thus, I have decided to make the shift sooner rather than later.
The plan for Turbo Racers is go be, you guessed it, a racing game. But not just an ordinary one. Firstly, I'm thinking I'll go with a Top Down or locked 3rd person perspective (meaning the camera does not rotate when you turn). I think I'd like the ability to buy your cars and upgrade them to be faster and more maneuverable. Perhaps I'll add the ability to shoot other cars or maybe drop mines on the track. And lastly, Multiplayer.
Now I normally wouldn't make this a multiplayer game however, I need to learn how to code this if I am ultimately going to go down this path in future games, so I think I'll implement multiplayer from the very start. That way, I can choose to do either single player or multiplayer. I hear it is much easier to convert from multiplayer to single player than it is to try and introduce multiplayer after the fact.
So, now it just means I need to get started. I'm going to be a bit odd and actually release as many iterations of the development process on here. So first thing will be to get started and release the first thing I learn - How to move the players character.
